Advocacy

The Oregon Dermatology Society maintains an active legislative presence, coordinated through it’s legislative director, Dr. Scott Collins.  Dr. Collins is an active part of DAN (the Dermatology Advocacy Network) which actively lobbies for patient protection an access issues.  Several ODS members regularly attend Legislative Conferences in Washington, D.C.  In addition to ongoing issues, the ODS was actively involved, through Dr. Collins, in crafting Dermatology’s involvement with recent Health Care Reform efforts.

On the local level, ODS monitors developments in Salem, and is actively working with national dermatology organizations to advance skin health agendas on the state level.  These include possible tanning bed restrictions for young Oregonians, as well as efforts to protect patients in various health care delivery settings.
