Membership

Membership Types

Active members: Physicians licensed to practice in Oregon or neighboring states and who are Board eligible or Board Certified dermatologists, having the degree of M.D. or D.O., meeting the criteria of the American Board of Dermatology or the American Board of Osteopathic Dermatology. Active members may attend monthly meetings of the society.

Regional members: Meet the criteria for Active members but are not expected to attend the monthly meetings of the society but shall retain the right to do so.  A fee may be assessed of out of area members when attending a society social or meal function.  To be eligible for out of area status, the member must reside at least 50 miles from the OMA building located at 11740 SW 68th Parkway, Suite 100, Portland, OR 97223.  Dues for out of area members shall be designated in the Administrative Regulations.

Residents-in-Training Members: They must be recommended by the chair of the department of dermatology at OHSU, or the designated residency director.  They may have the privilege of the floor but may not vote or hold office.

Inactive Members: Active members who have retired prior to age seventy (70) or are incapacitated by reason of illness, accident or infirmity and who, for this or any other reason, are unable to engage in active practice of dermatology, and members who are called to temporary active duty with the Armed Forces, and members who have left the geographical area encompassed by the Oregon Dermatology Society, may be elected to Inactive membership.  Period of inactive membership shall be determined by a majority vote of the membership committee and may be extended if necessary.  Inactive members shall not be required to pay annual dues and may attend scientific and business meetings.  However, they may be required to pay for social activities when attended.  Inactive members shall not be entitled to vote or to hold office in the society, but shall have the privilege of the floor of the society.

Life Members: Any person who has continual membership in the society for a minimum of ten (10) years and who has attained age seventy (70) years, may on application to the membership committee, and approval of a majority of society members, be classified as a Life member.  Life members shall be entitled to vote, but may not hold office in the society, but shall have the privilege of the floor of the society.  Life members are relieved of annual dues and may attend all scientific meetings, however, they are required to pay for social activities if attended.

Associate Members: Professionals with advanced degrees (M.D., D.O., Ph.D., D.D.S., D.M.D. or D.V.M.) with special training in dermatology or dermatopathology who are not eligible to be active members of the society are eligible to apply for associate membership.  Associate members shall have all the rights of active members except that they shall not have the right to vote or hold elective office.  Associate members shall be required to pay annual dues equivalent to half the annual dues of active members and shall be required to pay for any social activities they attend.

Educational Affiliate Members: A Dermatologic Physician Assistant (PA) or a Dermatologic Nurse Practitioner (NP) who is employed by and under the supervision of an active ODS member may be granted educational affiliate status in the ODS provided that he or she:

  1. Maintains an unrestricted license in Oregon and/or Washington.
  2. Has been associated with and worked under the supervision (as defined by applicable Oregon or Washington State Law) of an active member for at least one (1) year.
  3. Has submitted an application and a letter of recommendation from the active member with whom he or she is associated.  Such letter should set forth the nature of the supervisory relationship between the ODS member and the applicant.
  4. In order to maintain their status, educational affiliates must show evidence of
    continued employment and supervision by an active member of the ODS. This must be done on a yearly basis, and may be done by responding to a written inquiry from the society.  The response must be signed by the educational affiliate and his or her ODS member employer.  Failure to respond to such an inquiry within 3 months of its receipt shall result in automatic termination of educational affiliate status.  If an educational affiliate ceases to be employed by or under the supervision of an ODS member educational affiliate status is automatically terminated at that point.

Educational affiliates shall not have the right to vote, hold office or attend business meetings, but may attend all educational and social functions of the society.  Dues for educational affiliates shall be designated in the Administrative Regulations.  Regional educational affiliates shall be determined as above, with dues as designated in the Administrative Regulations.

Dues

- Active members: $300 / annually.
- Regional members: $150 / annually.
- Associate members: $150 / annually.
- Educational affiliate members: $300 / annually.
- Regional educational affiliate members: $150 / annually.
